Boy Crazy

My friend/roommate, Krystyna, sent me this card when she found out that I was lusting after an 18-year-old boy, when I was 22.

Krystyna and I had met Gary and his friend (Mark?) at The Troubadour and we had spent quite a few weekends talking with them in the front bar. Gary and Mark were in a band together (of course) and I remember that Gary was really tall and had really long reddish-brown hair, which was a departure from my usual dark hair fixation. Gary and I did a fair amount of flirting, but I kept teasing him and giving him a hard time, because he was so young.

One night Gary “announced” that he was taking me home with him, and he dragged me outside to his sports car. He told Krystyna that he was taking me with him, and she should drive my car back home!

Sadly, that night never went any further than a 3:00 am swim at his apartment pool (fully clothed of course!)

The above story came to mind, because I’ve been watching the Bravo Show Fashion Hunters and I even met Karina Lepiner (one of the cast members) when I was in New York, because she was the one who sold me a Chanel bag at her store.

In last week’s Fashion Hunters Show, Karina and pals go to a Runway Show where one of their newest consignors (a young boy), is walking. In another of the show’s scenes, we find out that Karina is married, and has two children, which is something we never expected. Especially so, after seeing her hug all the young boys, backstage at the Fashion Show, while breathlessly announcing: “I am so Boy Crazy!”

Hooray for Karina! I agree with her!

Nikki Sixx

Nikki Sixx - Motley Crue

I just read on Wikipedia that Mötley Crüe started in 1981, which is confusing to me, because I swear I saw them play when I moved to LA in 1980! I know they weren’t signed yet, when we saw them, because they were still playing The Whisky and The Troubador.

Back in 80/81 – the band was a little frightening to look at, with their stage makeup on, so I was totally surprised the first time I saw a photo of Nikki Sixx, without makeup on, and I realized that he was a really great looking guy!

Nikki is one of the few musicians I know, who has carried a great look through to present day which is evidenced by the photo on the right.

In addition to being a musician, Nikki also started a clothing line called Royal Underground. I found the most awesome Red leather jacket, from his clothing line, that will be available for sale in my next blog post.

In the meantime, listen to one of my favorite Mötley Crüe songs, that was written by Nikki:
Girls, Girls, Girls

A funny story about Mötley Crüe: Before Kevin and I got married, and he was still playing with Julliet, the girlfriends of the band members, had planned to go see Mötley Crüe when they played Lakeland. Once the guys heard about these plans, we were “not allowed” to go to that show together! I find that so amusing to this day! So, I didn’t see Mötley Crüe that year, but I did see them again when they opened for Aerosmith in 2006.

Update 10/24/2011: Look at what I found! I knew I had it somewhere! So it was 1981…..
