Hampton Williams: SYTYCD Season 9 Auditions

Reality Shows have their moments. Part of the fun of watching the audition process for shows like American Idol or So You Think You Can Dance, is you get to see lots of people make fools of themselves. Some Contestants sincerely believe they have the talent to make it onto shows like these while others audition with a “gimmick” in order to get some camera time for themselves.

At the Dallas auditions, for SYTYCD Season 9, Cat Deeley did a pre-interview with dancer Hampton Williams who told her, very seriously, that he had created a style of dance called “Exorcist Style.” Cat politely listened to him talk and then sent him off for his audition. When Hampton was called on stage, and explained more about his “Exorcist Style” to the judges, the crowd laughed nervously and Nigel Lythgoe stated that he was starting to get scared. They invited him to get started, and when the opening chords of My Immortal, by Evanescence started to play, Nigel made the comment to Mary: “Who would have thought of this music?” To which Mary replied: “For an Exorcism.”

It all seemed like a set up…for another one of those people who think they are unique.

Within seconds though, everyone was mesmerized by the art of Hampton Williams, and by the end of his audition there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd and he received a standing ovation from everyone in the theater.

Hampton made it through to the Choreography round and then sadly, he excused himself from the competition, because he couldn’t follow the traditional dance steps.

If you somehow missed it, here is the video of Hampton Williams “Exorcist Style” audition, for Season 9, of So You Think You Can Dance.
